How do I keep prayer lists for the newsletter?

Who can do this: Admins and clergy.

Clergy and admins can add names. Pewbook keeps three lists: the sick, the recently died and anniversaries. Names are printed in the newsletter only. They’re never put on your parish page.

Switch them on

An admin does this once.

  1. Go to Newsletter and open the Layout tab.
  2. Under Prayer lists, tick Keep prayer lists. It saves straight away.
  3. In Sections, in order, tick each list you want printed: Prayer list: the sick, Prayer list: recently died and Prayer list: anniversaries. Move them up or down with the arrows.

Each list has Settings in that list: its Heading, and for the sick and the recently died, the Weeks a name stays on (1 to 26).

Names are left out of Copy text unless you tick Include them when you copy the text under Prayer lists.

Add a name

  1. In the This week tab, find Prayer lists and tap Add a name.
  2. Choose the List.
  3. Type the Name just as you’d like it printed. Don’t add anything about their illness, address or family.
  4. For the sick and the recently died, check First day it shows. Leave Last day (optional) blank to keep the name on for the number of weeks set in the Layout tab. For an anniversary, choose the Date to pray on: it prints in that week’s newsletter.
  5. Under Who agreed to this?, choose The person themselves, Their family, Next of kin, or From parish records (for example, a funeral the parish held). You must choose one.
  6. Add a Note (optional), such as “asked by her daughter, by phone”.
  7. Tap Save name.

Each name has Edit and Remove. Removing a name deletes it from Pewbook straight away.

When names come off

A name comes off the newsletter after its last day. Pewbook then deletes it on its own: 90 days later for the sick and the recently died. An anniversary is kept for a year and 30 days, so Pewbook can remind you next year.

Anniversaries from last year

Around the date, the This week tab shows Anniversaries from last year: the names that were in the newsletter around this time last year. Tap Add again for this year to add one. You’re asked who agreed to it again. Or tap Don’t add.
